I recently finished reading Brene Brown’s ‘Gifts of imperfection’ and after I finished reading it ,it took me a couple of moments to recollect myself ,Because everything Brene had written in it resonated so much with all of our lives and I couldn’t help but notice the resemblance her words bore to our actions and thoughts. She talks about how we are spending every second every minute of our lives trying to be someone we are not ,trying to fit in the so called social framework at the expense of our authentic selves.
It’s so much easier to say, “I’ll be whoever or whatever you need me to be, as long as I feel like
I’m part of this.” From gangs to gossiping, we’ll do what it takes to fit in if we believe it will meet
our need for belonging. But it doesn’t. We can only belong when we offer our most authentic selves
and when we’re embraced for who we are.- Brene Brown
But the question we should be asking ourselves here is that why are we so desperate to fit in, Why do we constantly measure our self worth based on what others are going to think ? Why?
Why can’t we just unforgivably be ourselves and act and behave the way we want to .
(I have no intentions whatsoever of making you feel depressed 😉 )
All I want to say is we have one life to live and to think prudentially does it make any sense living it any other way than we want to ? I guess no right ?
But it’s easier said than done living in a world where perfectionism has almost become a way of life . Our lives are caught up in the whirlwind of perfectionism, advertisements selling us cosmetics , plastic surgeries etc. so that we are able to look like some ethereal person, and the worst thing is that it doesn’t stop here ,we are expected to be flawless .Even in our job interviews we are asked about our flaws . when did that become necessary ? We are not super humans for crying out loud ! Flaws are as much a part of our being as are our strengths , they make us who we are , they make us human and in this ever growing tech. dominated world where we are constantly surrounded by inhuman voices I think we might just need a little bit of humanly touch.
So what are you waiting for ? get off that couch ! Dance in the rain like no one’s watching, sing like no ones listening and do whatever your heart desires !
Until next time !
